What is Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
OSA is a potentially dangerous sleep disorder in which breathing stops repeatedly during sleep. When this occurs, the person’s oxygen in their blood stream can drop precipitously. This potentially damages vital organs, including the brain, and puts untoward stress on the patient’s heart and other organs. Patients with untreated OSA often feel tired during the day, since their sleep is disturbed and their body is not getting the rest and recovery it needs at night.
If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, you may have sleep apnea. This can be diagnosed with a simple home sleep study.

Eviva has implemented a sleep program for our weight loss surgery patients. If a sleep study is required which is determined at your surgical weight loss consultation with your surgeon, we can set you up with a sleep study same day to take home with you and complete. We also offer Board Certified Providers and Respiratory Therapists to give results, set you up on CPAP Machines and educate you to be successful when surgery day arrives.
We also offer:
- CPAP Rentals
- CPAP/Supplies Retail Sales

How does Sleep Apnea affect anesthesia?
Surgery, especially requiring general anesthesia, can be dangerous for patients with obstructive sleep apnea. The anesthetics in a person’s body can linger for several days after the surgery and this can affect breathing. Patients are often on pain medication after a surgery, which can also adversely affect breathing during sleep. The last thing a patient or their family would ever want is a preventable complication that could occur at home after a successful surgery due to undiagnosed, untreated Sleep Apnea.
At Eviva we take patient safety and Sleep Apnea seriously. Anyone at risk, determined through a simple questionnaire, should be evaluated. If the patient indeed has OSA, they can be treated safely during the post-surgical period with a breathing device (CPAP). Our Team coordinates this seamlessly for our patients.
